Calculator Use

The graphing scientificand multi-function computers are acceptable or available for certain Practice (r) tests. Unless it is explicitly stated that a calculator is allowed to be used for a particular test the calculator cannot be used.

Test-takers are not permitted to share calculators.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless it is specifically stated that a specific type of calculator is permitted or required for a specific test, calculators are not allowed to be used for all practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You can use a four-function or scientific calculator to pass your Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, though you're not required to use it. You are required to bring your own calculator to the test center. It is not allowed on the day of the exam. A graphing calculator isn't allowed during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following items are not allowed in Praxis test:

  • Laptops and portable computers
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators are available on all phones watches, electronic devices
  • Models that include QWERTY along with other alphabetic keys in the hardware or software
  • Printing models
  • Models that emit noise or "talk"
  • Models that require an outlet
  • Models that connect to the internet or have wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models with a camera capable of scanning, digital audio/video player recording/player capabilities

Additionally, the use of any peripheral devices is not allowed.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators from test takers' own calculators aren't permitted for Praxis exams which have calculators on screen.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

These Practice tests include an on-screen scientific calculator. The tests make use of the TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is provided so that you may practice using the calculator that is on your screen prior to your test day.
